Working People Need Unions: We formed our union because we could not depend on employers to provide us with dignity, a measure of security and a rising standard of living. And, over the years, we did make impressive gains. But our objectives remain far from fulfilled, and with even our past gains under attack, we need unions today as much as we ever did". Labour Management Minutes Updates / Machine Malfunction Arbitration (June 2010)
Labour Management Minutes
The minutes for the January 8th & May 7th Labour Management Meetings are available on the Documents and Reports Page.
Please Note: On page 4 (item # 11) of the May 7th LM Minutes - "Emergency days and deemed hours" refers to the following communication: Emergency Leave Days under the ESA (Ontario)
"Arbitrator Raymond decided that the two repeat bets were not the result of machine malfunction. This decision has little significance beyond this case. This case has once again demonstrated the burden the Union must overcome to convince an arbitrator that a machine has malfunctioned. Please forward to the Union any significant instances of tote malfunctions, including tote reports.
This decision has only increased the Union's resolve to challenge shortages related to incorrect tickets."

This event will be held on July 24th at Greenhills Golf Club in Lambeth

Union Respectfully Disagrees With Ms Saltman's Decision
The Union respectfully disagrees with Ms Saltman's decision that the unwanted ticket was a cash shortage for purposes of the ESA and the CPMA Regs. Or that it was a monetary transaction for purposes of the collective agreement. Ms Saltman seems to have bought into the argument that the the integrity of the betting systems should take precedence over the welfare of employees.

The CAW Family Education Program
Some consider it the best kept secret in the CAW. It's like taking a family holiday with your union at the CAW's beautiful Family Education Centre in Port Elgin, Ontario on the shores of Lake Huron. The CAW provides, free of charge, food and lodging to each participant (and family) during their stay at the Education Centre.
